Public trust grows when people can see who runs their government. A staff and officials directory puts a face, a role and a contact to each person. This guide shows how to build one in WordPress with the Egovt theme’s Team module.
What each profile should include
- A photo, name and job title.
- Areas of expertise and experience.
- Contact details — email and phone.
- A short bio so residents know the person’s remit.
- Links to the person’s official or social profiles.
Building it with Egovt’s Team module
Egovt provides a dedicated Team custom post type — built and registered by our OvaTheme Team plugin and designed for people profiles — so each official is a proper record with its own fields, managed from the Teams section.
A note on the URL: staff profiles use the /team/ slug by default. To make it read /staff/, /officials/ or any slug that fits your site, you can change it code-free with the free Loco Translate plugin — here’s how to make the staff URL friendlier.
1. Add each person
Go to Teams → Add New Team, enter the name and description, then set the profile fields:
- An Avatar photo.
- Job, Expertise and Experience.
- Email and Phone.
- Excerpt 1 and Excerpt 2 for short bios or highlights.
- A social icons group (icon class + link) for official profiles, plus an optional Signature image.
- A Sort Order number to arrange the team.

2. Group by category
Use Teams → Add New Category to organize people — for example by department, office or leadership level. Link these back to your department directory so visitors can move from a unit to its people.
3. Display the directory
Egovt adds several Team widgets to Elementor, so you can present people wherever you need them. Here’s what each element does:
Team
A grid of staff/official cards (photo, name, role, contact), with the columns you choose. The main directory block.

Team slider
The same profiles in a rotating carousel, for a “meet the leadership” highlight.

Team slider 2
An alternative slider style and layout for the profiles.

Contact form
A built-in contact-form widget you can place beside the team so residents can get in touch.

Tips for a directory that builds trust
- Use consistent, professional photos.
- Keep titles and contact details accurate and current.
- Group by department so the org structure is obvious.
- Write bios in plain language focused on what the person handles.
A staff directory works best as part of a connected site, not a standalone page. Most government websites surround it with online services, a department directory, a document center and an events calendar, all organised under one clear structure. Why we’d start with Egovt
Egovt’s Team module pairs with departments and services in one $49 theme, editable without code. See the live demo.
